Lovely bunch of coconuts

I love Coconut oil. I thought it would be fun to try some recipes. After recently buying some essential oils,  I stumbled upon some recipes for body butters and sugar scrubs.  I picked out pomegranate. I love citrus scent’s.

I decided to go ahead and try making a body butter since the recipe that I found only called for coconut oil, vitamin e oil and an essential oil.  And since I had all three items it was super easy to make. The first body butter that I made came out fairly well. I used the lemon grass oil for my mom and she loves it. I did find that if you don’t have a kitchen aid mixer but a hand mixer to have the mixture in a deep smallish bowl. This will make the mixture more whipped than liquid. This worked better with the second batch i made which was much more whipped and airy.

For the second batch I used my pomegranate scented oil. Which it smells so good! Both recipes are good for many months. If you live I  an area where it is very warm you may want to store the mixtures in the fridge or somewhere cool since coconut oil does melt to a liquid around 76 degrees or by touch. (The apartment that we live in is so warm in the winter, my coconut oil is aways liquid. So I keep it in the fridge. We can’t control the heat.) I plan to get some jars for the future.

For the Body Butter:

1 cup coconut oil
1 cup Shea butter (optional)
1 teaspoon of vitamin e oil
10-15 drops of essential oil (more or less)
Add everything together in a bowel and mixed it on high till it has a light and fluffy whipped look and feel.
*note: You can also use this for shaving and if needed as a deodorant.

For the Sugar Scrub:

1/2 cup coconut oil
3/4 of olive oil
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vitamin e oil
10-15 drops of essential oil (more or less)
Melt the coconut oil and mix everything together.Ether by hand or by mixer.  Store in an airtight container. do not allow water in the container.
