I try to wash my brushes and sponges every week, because who wants to use the same brush or sponge on your face. I have tried different ways and so far this is the easiest way that works for me. I made my own makeup brush mat for cleaning and it works pretty good. It was kinda fun to make and super easy.
What I use:
Dr Bronners Organinc Sugar Soaps-I like the Tree Tea soap.
Homemade brush mat- random Tupperware lid with hot glue patterns.
Step One-
I get all of my brushes and sponges wet, some weeks it depends on if i put any eye shadow on or not, I mostly use makeup sponges. Then I pump some soap on my fancy homemade brush mat.
Step Two-
After getting the brushes/sponges wet and I then start swirling them on to the brush mat with the soap to clean them. Rinse and repeat untill the water from the brush/sponge is clear. You want to make sure the water doesn’t go on to the metal/handle since the glue can weaken.

AFTER:
Step Three-
Once all of the brushes/sponges are rinsed and cleaned I take a towel and squeeze ay extra water out and set them out to dry on a towel. A drying rack for brushes would speed up the drying time but, I don’t have one and I think my cats would think its a toy for them.
So there you go, thats how I clean my brushes/sponges. Nothing fancy.
