Happy Planner Haul

Back in January Michael’s was having their 60% off sale on planners and accessories during the New Year and I might have gone a little over board. I have been adding items, that I have been wanting on a wish list all year. I don’t think I paid more than $12 for any of the items that I bought. Really, I’m just trying to make my self and bank account feel better. But, it was a really good sale. The paper puncher alone is normally $30 and I got it basically for $12. What a deal, it was well worth the wait.

So here are the items I bought.

3 Reasons Why Twitter Is My Blogs Best Friend

If you don’t know it but twitter is my blogs best friend. When I started my blog in March of 2017 it got some traffic but not as much until I joined twitter in July. My blog BOOMED with traffic, it was unreal. Since then I have been using twitter regularly since. I get way more engagement then I ever did. Basically everyday I check twitter at lest once, either morning or at night. If it’s a day off from work then I pop on and off throughout the day. Also every couple of days or so I check my buffer and rebuffed tweets if need be. I am constantly recycling my blog posts on Twitter. I also belong to 2 twitter retweet accounts. One I co-manage and one I created and own. Plus I follow other retweet accounts on twitter and tag them in my tweets. They help so much. I know for a fact that if I didn’t tag or mention them, my blog would not get the exposure that I do.

On my twitter, sunburntaloe every Wednesday I have a WordPress Wednesday Follow Thread. Then on Friday I have a Follow Friday Thread. I have these set up on buffer so they are automatically sent out and saves me so much time during the week. I can not say how much I love buffer. I only wish I could add more then one twitter account to the free plan. Since I manage my own plus three others.

For my retweet accounts that I manage, I have been using Hootsuite mainly to set up and schedule tweets. For my retweet account that I own, Bloggingbeesrt I normally have a blogger train during the week. Then for the retweet account I help manage, Blissbloggers I promote our Facebook page and will also have a blogger train at some point during the week.

I also help manage my moms twitter gypsysoulseed , she finds twitter to be a bit overwhelming at times. So I also use Hootsuite for her account plus the two retweet accounts. I mainly make sure her blog posts are being scheduled and tweeted. Before I took over her twitter for her, she got traffic to her blog but not as much as she does now. Again that’s because we are promoting her blog posts and using retweeting accounts not just the ones I manage but also others.

Here are some reasons why twitter is my blogs best friend.

  1. Retweet accounts -They are a awesome way to promote and get the exposure for your blog. Also you meet and connect with other bloggers that are out there. I have found many favorite bloggers because of these accounts. Plus some accounts will have chats on set days and times.
  2. Follow trains- Follow trains are another way to find and connect with new blogs. Normally all you have to do is drop your link, follow others and retweet that tweet to keep that train moving. Again I have found som many favorite blogs this way.
  3. Twitter chats- I wish I could participate in more twitter chats but I feel most of the accounts I follow are in the UK area. So the time zones don’t really match. But I love joining and being part of the chats when I can.

If your already on twitter feel free to follow me and if you don’t that’s okay too. I hope you enjoyed reading!

Story behind my blog name

How I came about the name for my blog was by complete accident. About this time last year  I wanted to get back into blogging but wanted to change the name and feel of it. I just didn’t know what I wanted to change it too. Finally it hit me around march.

Lifestyle Blog alternative health beauty makeup DIY bullet journaling

We had moved in to a new apartment in January and was loving the amount of sunlight that was coming in from the windows. My plants also loved it.  I had placed a few plants, aloe, zebra and some cactus, in the window stills thinking that I was doing a good thing for them. Turns out it was way to much sun for some of them. My poor aloe plant use to be a nice bright and healthy green color with strong leaves was now a dark and sickly green with squishy leaves. My aloe plant was sunburned.

I felt horrible and moved the plant to spot in the kitchen that didn’t get as bright with sunlight. I only watered it once or twice in the 2-3 months of recovery. The plant is now back to its beautiful green color and even has new growth. All of the other  plants that were placed in the window have also made a recovery. Surprising the zebra plant has even sprouted new shoots. I will not make that mistake ever again. I had exposed them to to much sun to soon.

I would love to hear how your blog got its name.

6 Blogging Tools Any Blogger Needs

Blogging can be sometimes overwhelming. I decided to put together a list of blogging tools that helped me with my blogging game by keeping  me organize and on track. I’m no expert but I’m hoping it will be helpful to you. These are 6 blogging tool that I think any blogger needs.

  1. Twitter- My blog has exploded by using twitter. I started this blog in march/april and got some traffic and didn’t start using twitter until July. The amount of traffic i get now just from twitter is unreal. Twitter chats and RT accounts are super helpful for connecting to other bloggers. I recommend joining a twitter chat just 1-2 a week and see for your self.
  2. Scheduling Tweets with Buffer/Hootsuite/Tweetdeck – This has been really helpful getting word out about my blog and for the Twitter RT account. I can tell the difference on my blog  when I don’t have it setup for day. I use hootsuite  to schedule tweets for my Twitter RT account Blogging Bees RT.  I’m also  trying out Tweetdeck where I can have all three under one and manage them in one place.
  3. Planner– A planner is really helpful in planning blog post, tracking views and so much more. I use a happy planner and I plan out the blog post I would like to write-up and schedule posts. I write prompts for each day to give my self ideas to write about and to a point I follow it.
  4. Photo Editing– Snapseed  is a great app for editing photos, best part its free. I have it on my phone and iPad. I wish they had it for desktop/laptop. I love Adobe Spark. I think I make all of my blog titles in adobe spark.  They have a mobile app and desktop version. Both are free. Canva is anther great app that can be used for photo editing. You can use canva on mobile and desktop, but with model i find a little tricky at times.
  5. Camera– Most of the time I use my phone camera on my iPhone 7 for convenience. Even though I have a really nice Nikon COOLPIX P520 and a Sony Cyber‑shot DSC‑W570. I really need to break these bad boys out again and use them more often. Excuse me while I go charge them up. You don’t need a fancy camera. If you only have a cell phone then that’s okay. Or if you’re not into taking pictures for your blog that okay too.
  6. Computer/tablet– You need ether one to write blog posts on. I know a few  bloggers who write only on a phone because that’s all they have and that okay too. What ever works for you. I myself use my MacBook pro and my iPod pro. Sometime I will use my husbands Chromebook that we bought last year at tax time for under $200 at walmart, which if I didn’t have my MacBook or iPad, I would have bought one for myself. The battery life is better than my MacBook. I’m jealous.

What tools do you use for blogging?

My Hair Routine

Having short hair doesn’t mean you can always wash and go. Sometimes you can rock that bed head and it looks great. Other time not so much. As my hair is growing out from the pixie to a hopeful bob, it almost down to the bottom of my ears, it requires a little more love then just spritzing some water and go, but some days thats all it needs. Most of the time in the morning after I wake up my hair is sticking straight up in every direction. Not the look I go for.

So far this is what I use and do.

I use a thickening lotion, sea salt spray and a texture cream almost every day. I

2-3x a Week

I wash my hair with this volumizing shampoo and I also use a dry shampoo only if I really need it in between washes. I normally wash my hair every 2-3 days depending on how oily my hair gets. I also have very fine hair and when its oily it shows.

1-2x a Week

Hair mask. I love doing hair masks. Coconut oil is a great way to hydrate your hair and it also has many other benefits. I will sometimes use a deep conditioner once week besides the coconut oil. It just depends on the week and how my hair is feeling.

1-2 Months

Since having purple hair, I have to keep the color somewhat fresh looking and coverup those roots. I found a hair dye that doesn’t require me to bleach my brown hair. Thank you hair gods. In time as my hair grows out longer I plan to leave the ends colored and let my roots grow out and have a ombré affect. Well thats the plan right now, it might change again.
