Cleaning your Essential Oil Diffuser

Anyone one who has an essential oil diffuser knows they should clean the diffuser at lest monthly. No? That’s okay because I didn’t either, it wasnt untill one day I went to add oils into the one in our bedroom and notice it was very dirty inside and thought, hmm I should clean this. But I didn’t know how to. So I did some research (meaning Pinterest and google) and found a very easy way to clean my diffusers.

In order to keep you diffuser to run well you should wipe it out after each use and letting it air dry. You can run some lemon oil in your diffuser for a bit and it will make wiping out the inside much easier. Some diffusers don’t use water and you can still clean it by rinsing the nozzle and wiping it clean.

But first before you start cleaning make sure of what kind diffuser you have since there are so many different kinds out there.

Deep Cleaning

  1. Turn off your diffuser.
  2. Fill the water reservoir halfway to the line with clean water.
  3. Add 10 drops of white vinegar to the water reservoir.
  4. Turn it on and let run for 3-5 minutes, allowing the vinegar to run through.
  5. Drain the water reservoir completely.
  6. Wipe down the edges of the reservoir and the ultrasonic mist chip at the bottom.
  7. Rinse the water reservoir with clean water.

This method of cleaning works well with the diffuser’s that I own. I hope this helps anyone with a diffuser who was unsure how to clean one or didnt know they should!

My New Glasses From Zenni Optical

Recently this pass month I went and had my yearly eye appointment. My dr made me go since I am diabetic and was due for one anyways. So I had to get the dilated eye exam done to make sure there are no signs of Diabetic Retinopathy. Which I am happy to say  my eyes are healthy and I have no signs at all.  He did say my astigmatism did improve and that my eye sight did change slightly but he wasnt concerned at all. He also gave me my prescription for glass some samples of contacts to try out and to come back in a few weeks to make sure they fit right on my eyes.

Normally after I have an eye exam I would pick out a pair of glasses right there but decided that I want to order a pair online. The last time I bought glasses, which was last June/July I ended up paying over $150 just for one pair, I picked out the cheapest frames and  my prescription isn’t even that bad.

I had heard of a few sites, Zenni Opitcal and Eye Buy Direct where both having clearance sales. Zenni Optical had more styles and colors that I was looking for, so I went with them. The ordering process was so easy, I created an account and entered in my prescription information and save it, so it’s always there and I don’t ever have to retype it in again.  The lens already come with  free Anti-Scratch Coating and UV Protection Coating and you also get a hard case and a cleaning cloth with each pair.

But I picked out two frames and added a couple of extras to both pairs like Super Hydrophobic (water resistant)  and High-Index UV+ Blue Blocker that also includes Standard Anti-Reflective Coating.  I did have to measure my Pupillary Distance myself, which is between the center of one pupil to the center of the other. But they offer a print out so you can do it your self or with a friend.

Roughly for both pairs I only paid $40, so after tax and shipping it was $86.  I will take that any day. In the past I never would get any “extras” beside insurance and the anti scratch coating. I paid standard shipping, which was 14-21 days, it took 14 days for me to get them.

I love them both. The first pair is oversized black square frames with a slight red color on inside. I picked these as my everyday pair.  At when I first tried them on I wasnt to sure about them since I normally pick smaller frames for my face, so it has been an adjustment to get use to. Everyone so far has told me they like them on me, and they are now starting to grow back on to me. But I do have 30 days from the date I have received them to decide if I want to keep them or return them for another pair. I don’t think I will but I like the option.

My second pair is a Brown Vintage-Inspired Oval Frames with a solid vanilla color that turns to a swirling pattern. These were going to by my “Fun” pair but these might just be my everyday pair now. I havent decided yet.

I plan on ordering in the future from Zenni Optical again, my husband will be needing a second or third pair of glasses soon and I still have my eye on a few pairs from Eye Buy Direct as well. The only minor con in my mind is that you can’t try them on when ordering online but you can upload a picture of your self so you can get some kind of idea if the frames will work for your face. Which does help a bit.

13 Ways To Get More Water

I think everyone has heard of  the eight glasses  of water a day. Your water intake can really depends  your overall health, like how active you are. I thought I would make a list of ways to drink enough water.

1. Add flavor to your pitcher.

2. Drink a glass after every bathroom break.

3. Sip before every meal.

4. Use an app to track your cups.

5. High-tech water bottle.

6. Dilute sugary drinks with water and ice.

7. Keep a gallon jug nearby.

8. Invest in a filter.

9. Choose sparkling or mineral water over soda.

10. Eat water-rich foods.

11. Stick to a one-to-one rule when drinking alcohol.

12. Use a marked water bottle.

13. Cut back on the caffeine.

I track my intake with my fitbit app and make sure I have my water bottle with me through out the day at work or home. I also have a filter and sometimes will add flavor by fruits, veggies and herbs to the water. Chia seeds are also great to add to water since they give you energy but not like coffee which will keep you up at night.

I hope you found this helpful! I would love to hear if there are any other ways you get your 8 cups of water a day.

My More Consistent Skincare Routine

Since my My Nightly Routine or Lack of One post, my skin care routine it has changed. I am a lot more consistent with it. Some items I still use and some are new that I have found and enjoy.  It may seem like a lot to some but so far this has been helping my skin behave.

Also everything that I use is affordable, all under $15 depending where you choose to purchase and where you live.  I have linked every product that I listed to their website.  I bought these products from a variety places, such as Target, Walmart,  the products website or local health food stores near me.

Skincare Routine

Daytime

First lets start with the mornings and what steps I take to get ready for the day.

Toner

For toner I still use Dr Thayer’s Lavender and aloe vera with witch hazel toner ($10.95). I love how it smells and makes my face feels clean.

Spot Treatment

I use the Alba Botanica Acnedote Invisable Treatment Gel ($8.99). I just dab it on any zits that pop up and done.

Vitamin B3 Serum

I use the  The Ordaniry Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum by ($5.90).  Which helps with blemishes and can help brighten the skin tone.

Moisturizer

I also still use Earth Science Almond-Aloe Face Moisturizer ($10.99). Lightly scented and makes the skin feel so soft.

Then after that has soaked into my skin I apply my makeup depending on the day.

Night Time

At night I use a little more products and some of them are that same as the morning.

Makup Remover

For removing my makeup I will use Alba Botanica good & clean™
dual textured exfoliating towelettes ($4.72) or Yes To Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Micellar Cleansing Water ($8.99). Both of these work really well taking off any makeup I have on my face. I alternate each one for no reason I just rally like both. The towelettes are nice to have since they have a smooth side and a exfoliating side. The charcoal micellar water is pretty neat, it comes clear with charcoal on the bottom and when you are about to use it you shake it to mix the charcoal.

Face Wash

To wash my face I use Alba Botanica Acnedote Deep Pore Wash ($6.19). This face wash has really helped my troubled areas of acne, as long as im consistent with it my face behaves. I still will get the occasional small zit, which is normal and easy to deal with, but not so much of the huge painful cyst acne I frequently get. Those are just so painful, horrible looking and hard to deal.

Toner

For toner, I again use  Dr Thayer’s Lavender and aloe vera with witch hazel toner ($10.95).

Exfoliating Facial-2 times a week

I use The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution ($7.20). AHA (Alpha hydroxy acids)  exfoliate the top layer of  skin for a brighter and even skin.  BHA (Beta hydroxy acids) exfoliates deeper in  the skin to  help clear pore congestion. Tasmanian Pepperberry which makes this peel reddish in color,  helps reduce the irritation associated with acids. The Vitamin B5 helps with healing and black carrot as an antioxidant. Since you only use 2-3 drops a few times a week this  bottle will last you  forever.

Spot Treatment

I use again if needed the Alba Botanica Acnedote Invisable Treatment Gel ($8.99).

Vitiman C Serum

I use the Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% by The Ordinary ($12.90). Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant,  helps brightens the skin tone and reduces signs of ageing. Two drops is more than enough for you face and neck, this bottle has lasted me for months.

Antioxidant Serum -3 times a week

I use The Ordinary’s Alpha Lipoic Acid 5% ($6.80). Alpha Lipoic Acid is a potent antioxidant and can restore skin appearance, improve skin texture and tone.  It is also very sensitive to sunlight so it is recommended to be used at night.  Again since you only use 2-3 drops a few times a week a bottle will last for ever.

Moisturizer

I then finish up with  Burt’s Bees Sensitive Night Cream  ($15.00) at night.  It is on the pricey side for me, but a little bit goes a long way. I bought this on whim, since i was looking for a night.

Through out the week I do use other mud masks and peels that I have depending on what my skin is doing at that moment. I also have been using a spin brush that I picked up and I have notice a great improvement since pairing it with the Deep Pore Wash. But I think that will be another post in time.

Well I hope you enjoyed reading!

Blog Post Ideas – Organising

I know spring began in March.  It is now May, and as I write this at 8:45 in the morning with 65 degree weather with a possible high of 83 and all of my windows open. Here in south-eastern Wisconsin it’s finally feels and looks like spring. With that I finally feel like spring cleaning and organising my home and life. Just kidding about my life, its pretty organized. But I do have projects that I would like to start, like going through my clothes, cleaning up the closets that I dumped random items in when we moved in December or organise our storage bin in our apartment again because of all the random items I dumped in there.  I can only blame my self for that, but in my defense moving is very tiring.

As I was thinking of projects that need to get done,  I realised this would be a great blog post to do. So I made a list of different ways you organize.
