Here is my reading list for 2019. I met my reading challenge of 18 books in 2018 and I am aiming for 19 in 2019. Some of the books that are on my list for 2018 have made it to my list for 2019, I found other books to read at the time instead. I am hoping to read all of them this time, before reading others that I find that are not on the list.
A witch is a wise woman, a healer. Yet for so long the word ‘witch’ has had negative connotations. In this book, third generation hereditary witch Lisa Lister explains the history behind witchcraft, why identifying as a healer in past centuries led women to be burned at the stake, and why the witch is reawakening in women across the world today.
This book provides an overview of the different schools of witchcraft and the core principles and practices within them. Discover ancient wisdom made relevant for modern witches:
The wheel of the year, the sabbats, the cycles of the moon.
Tools to enhance your intuition, including oracle cards and dowsing, so that you can make decisions quickly and comfortably.
Understanding the ancient use of the word ‘medicine’.
How to work with herbs, crystals and power animals so that you have support in your spiritual work.
Work with the elements to achieve deep connection with the world around you.
In addition, Lisa teaches personal, hands-on rituals and spells from her family lineage of gypsy witch magic to help you heal, manifest and rediscover your powers.
Utterly transporting and stylish, Material Girl, Mystical World takes you on an unforgettable journey through modern spirituality—from meditation and tarot to astrology—guided by wise and witty tastemaker Ruby Warrington, founder of The Numinous.
Inspired by the consciousness-shifting traditions that have moved seekers for generations, Material Girl, Mystical World is a fabulous adventure in the “Now Age”—a sophisticated upgrade on cosmic thinking, from healing crystals to doing your dharma, for women who know that a closetful of designer shoes can happily coexist with a deeply meaningful life.
Set against the backdrop of Ruby Warrington’s own transformative path from her dream job as an influential fashion journalist to creating The Numinous, the high-style, high-vibe online magazine about spirituality for modern women, Material Girl, Mystical World invites readers on a colorful journey to discover their own path to personal enlightenment in every area of life, from love, sex, and relationships to fashion, beauty, health, and wellness.
Combining the wit and charm of a modern-day Carrie Bradshaw with the stylish soul of Elizabeth Gilbert, Warrington shows us that it is within our power, right now, to create a life that is both intentional and fabulous—while also contributing to a major shift in global consciousness.
Amoruso spent her teens hitchhiking, committing petty theft, and scrounging in dumpsters for leftover bagels. By age twenty-two she had dropped out of school, and was broke, directionless, and checking IDs in the lobby of an art school—a job she’d taken for the health insurance. It was in that lobby that Sophia decided to start selling vintage clothes on eBay.
Flash forward to today, and she’s the founder of Nasty Gal and the founder and CEO of Girlboss. Sophia was never a typical CEO, or a typical anything, and she’s written #GIRLBOSS for other girls like her: outsiders (and insiders) seeking a unique path to success, even when that path is windy as all hell and lined with naysayers.
#GIRLBOSS proves that being successful isn’t about where you went to college or how popular you were in high school. It’s about trusting your instincts and following your gut; knowing which rules to follow and which to break; when to button up and when to let your freak flag fly.
Rose McGowan was born in one cult and came of age in another, more visible cult: Hollywood.
In a strange world where she was continually on display, stardom soon became a personal nightmare of constant exposure and sexualization. Rose escaped into the world of her mind, something she had done as a child, and into high-profile relationships. Every detail of her personal life became public, and the realities of an inherently sexist industry emerged with every script, role, public appearance, and magazine cover. The Hollywood machine packaged her as a sexualized bombshell, hijacking her image and identity and marketing them for profit.
Hollywood expected Rose to be silent and cooperative and to stay the path. Instead, she rebelled and asserted her true identity and voice. She reemerged unscripted, courageous, victorious, angry, smart, fierce, unapologetic, controversial, and real as f*ck.
BRAVE is her raw, honest, and poignant memoir/manifesto—a no-holds-barred, pull-no-punches account of the rise of a millennial icon, fearless activist, and unstoppable force for change who is determined to expose the truth about the entertainment industry, dismantle the concept of fame, shine a light on a multibillion-dollar business built on systemic misogyny, and empower people everywhere to wake up and be BRAVE.
Moon Power explains ancient moon worship, introduces the moon signs, covers the basics of moon phases, and offers guidance on working with each sign as the moon passes through it.

From aromatherapy and numerology to healing crystals and meditation, this fun and sassy guide to everything body-mind-spirit defines New Age practices for a new generation.
What type of crystal should I put in my car for a road trip? Should I Feng Shui my smart phone screen? In this illuminating introduction for the modern-day soul searcher, Emma Mildon shines light on everything your mom didn’t teach you about neo–New Age practices.
Comedian Gabbie Hanna brings levity to the twists and turns of modern adulthood in this exhilarating debut collection of illustrated poetry.
In poems ranging from the singsong rhythms of children’s verses to a sophisticated confessional style, Gabbie explores what it means to feel like a kid and an adult all at once, revealing her own longings, obsessions, and insecurities along the way. Adultolescence announces the arrival of a brilliant new voice with a magical ability to connect through alienation, cut to the profound with internet slang, and detonate wickedly funny jokes between moments of existential dread. You’ll turn to the last page because you get her, and you’ll return to the first because she gets you.
This provocative book invites you to create your own spiritual path based on often-suppressed ancient principles and contemporary practices. Using the elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether) rather than traditional patriarchal hierarchies, this “holy book” is designed to connect each individual to their universal — but often denied — powers. Wild woman Danielle Dulsky takes you deep as she explores and embraces sacred feminine archetypes such as the Mother Goddess, the Crone, and the Maiden. Join her as she guides you to envision and explore a world that enriches and supports your spirit, body, and mind as well as our global community and the Earth.
Dodging Energy Vampires: An Empath’s Guide to Evading Relationships That Drain You and Restoring Your Health and Power
Highly sensitive people—or empaths—see life through the eyes of compassion and caring. They were born that way. As a result, they carry a tremendous amount of inner light. But they’re also the favored prey of “vampires” who feed off empaths’ energy and disrupt their lives on every level—physical, emotional, and financial.
In Dodging Energy Vampires, Christiane Northrup, M.D., draws on the latest research in this exciting new field, along with stories from her global community and her own life, to explore the phenomenon of energy vampires and show us how we can spot them, dodge their tactics, and take back our own energy. You’ll delve into the dynamics of vampire-empath relationships and discover how vampires use others’ energy to fuel their own dysfunctional lives. Once you recognize the patterns of behavior that mark these relationships, you’ll be empowered to identify the vampires in your life too.
Witchcraft is one of those things it’s a bit hard to find advice on, as it is a bit strange in our times to go around asking people if they are witches. Even google is not helpful if you don’t know the questions to ask, which can often be the case when stumbling upon something new where everyone else seems to already be in the know. So here are a few questions and answers in case you needed either of them.
This is a basic overview of witchcraft, what it is, the techniques and methods commonly used in it, as well as some simple spells, intended for the beginner witch.
The Year of Less: How I Stopped Shopping, Gave Away My Belongings, and Discovered Life Is Worth More Than Anything You Can Buy in a Store
In her late twenties, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy—only keeping her from meeting her goals—she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year.
The Year of Less documents Cait’s life for twelve months during which she bought only consumables: groceries, toiletries, gas for her car. Along the way, she challenged herself to consume less of many other things besides shopping. She decluttered her apartment and got rid of 70 percent of her belongings; learned how to fix things rather than throw them away; researched the zero waste movement; and completed a television ban. At every stage, she learned that the less she consumed, the more fulfilled she felt.

High-achieving introverts feel the intense tug between the drive to achieve more and the need for solitude, between going out to conquer the world fighting with the desire to simply be alone.
And there is an Achilles heel that every high-achieving introvert has: a keen sensitivity to inner critics, those voices telling us we aren’t enough of something—not good enough, qualified enough, attractive enough, smart enough. Everyone has inner critics, but some people seem able to move past them more easily than others. For those addicted to achievement, like high-achievers, this is the place where perfectionism breeds, and where nothing is ever enough. And the introvert’s tendency to spend hours a day, thinking, exacerbates the inner critic.
She spent over a decade in digital marketing helping produce award-winning advertising campaigns for top global clients. So to find her, lying on her itchy living room carpet, still in pajamas at noon, is to know she’s in a slump. The reason? The very medium she’d devoted her career to.
Our world speeds by these days, with push notifications serving as another tedious responsibility to take care of. But for all the chat rooms and status updates, Ahıskal felt disconnected, depressed. When did connection become a chore? When did we stop truly listening to one another? Was it possible to get that connection back?
She sought the answer to these questions by conducting the 28-day media detox in her debut title BLACKOUT. For four weeks – with the exception of one notable “peek” – she avoided social media, cable television, continuous-scroll newsfeeds, and other maddening digital content. The insight she gained was invaluable.
